How can I qualify for a listing and link to my school?
AAPH provides a Hypnotherapy Schools page to the public, intended for use by individuals that are looking to train and become certified hypnotherapists and for professional hypnotherapists looking for continuing education and specialty training.
When people are looking for a school to attend, they want to know:
- What classes, programs and courses are offered?
- When are they offered? How many hours is each class and course?
- What is the cost of each class or course?
- What certificates are provided? What is the level of certification for each course?
- Where is the school located? Where do I attend classes?
- How do I register for classes? What are the admission policies and requirements?
- Who is teaching? Who is on staff? What are their qualifications and background?
- What is the history, status (state licensing, continuing education provider, etc.) and affiliations of the school?
- What materials are required for each class? What materials are provided?
- How can I meet the staff and see the facilities before signing up?
Of course, pictures of the building and/or classroom, the staff members, some class materials and groups of happy graduates are a big plus.
In order for AAPH to link to your school online and to be listed on the AAPH Schools page, the web presence (web pages) for your school must at least provide information for items 1-6, and really should address items 1-8. This is so people shopping for a school have enough information to evaluate and take further action. The AAPH office staff has sole discretion in determining if your school's web pages provide enough information to qualify for a listing and link on the AAPH Schools page.
Part of AAPH's function is to provide quality information to the public as well as hypnotherapists, and one of the ways we can support industry schools is to help them maintain a good standards of online information and certification requirements.
Internet and Correspondence Courses
Many schools today are based on Internet classrooms, online self-study and videos, or correspondence courses (either online or mail) with instructors. Currently, AAPH does not classify these as full schools. These can still be listed as continuing education opportunities on the AAPH web site.
To be listed by AAPH as a full school of hypnotherapy, your school must have graduated students in the last twelve months that have received at least 50 hours* of face-to-face, instructor-led training in a physical classroom.
AAPH does not recommend any hypnotherapy certifications that do not include at least 50 hours of face-to-face instructor time. We posit that hypnotherapy is an in-person and whole-body skill, and therefore in-person training is important for so many reasons and subtleties. We have found that being hypnotized in class under instructor supervision and hypnotizing other students in class with instructor feedback is foundational to the confidence that is required to be a successful professional hypnotherapist.
Additional Notes
Internet video is obviously the future of much training and learning, however, AAPH has yet to qualify hours completed via Skype video as face-to-face hours. If you are a school that provides the bulk of training hours via Skype or other Internet video method, please contact our offices. We would love to develop a research and referrals program based on graduate reviews and success rates of your program.
