Becoming familiar with Hypnosis

Stop for a moment and think. Think about what happens when you get totally and utterly immersed in a story. What it’s like when you read a book or watch a movie that is so exciting and compelling that the story sucks you right into the reality of that story. You don’t care whether or not what’s happening is possible or real you just eagerly follow along and enjoy the ride.

You can experience physical sensations and emotions like your heart racing as something exciting happens, maybe a feeling of attraction towards one of the characters begins to grow inside of you, the anticipation of what’s to come that keeps you wanting more. All of these feelings all of these emotions are being experienced as if you were a part of that story.

Now all of these sensations are happening inside you while sitting in a room filled with strangers looking at an oversized TV screen, or in solitude with a stack of paper in your hands reading.

How is it possible to have a strong physical reaction to something that isn’t actually happening to you?

Because you were in fact experiencing hypnotic effect at that moment. Yes you were hypnotized.

Your mind is and always was capable of accessing these types of responses at anytime and anyplace. Your mind is also capable of changing these reflexive responses. Now when you think about what I just said and imagine the responses you don’t like for example becoming overwhelmed with stress or anxiety in certain situations, you can begin to imagine changing that stress and anxiety into relaxation and focus or whatever would benefit you.

You see hypnosis isn’t what most people think it is. The definition of hypnosis is the suspension of the critical factor of the conscious mind and the establishment of acceptable selective focus/thinking.

Now what does that mean? The critical factor is the part of your mind that makes judgments; good or bad, real or not real, me not me, possible or not possible and so on and so forth.

Some of you might be saying to yourself in one way or another that you don’t want to let go of making those judgments and that those judgments are an important helpful part of living your life the way you want. Well I agree but only to a certain extent.

When was the last time you said to yourself “I can’t do that”, “That’s not possible”. These are judgments that you make about yourself and your life. These are also beliefs about yourself and your life, they are a part of your internal thought process and belief system. Now when you suspend critical thinking and have an experience that would allow you to have more positive and beneficial thought processes you can change beliefs, for example the belief “I can’t do that” can easily become “I haven’t yet done that successfully” which allows for the possibility of success and an easy transition into “I can do that” and whatever “that” is becomes a part of your identity, it’s just who you are now. This is just one of many different applications of hypnosis that can help change your life for the better easily and permanently.
